Mitsubishi Outlander Dashboard Light Guide
Your Mitsubishi Outlander is a reliable SUV, but even a car you can count on needs service from time to time. So, how do you know when it needs a service technician right away?
Toms River Mitsubishi put together this Mitsubishi Outlander Dashboard Light Guide to help drivers in Brick, Ocean Gate, and Beachwood know what signs to look for.
Anti-Lock Braking System – If your anti-lock brake system malfunctions, you’ll see a yellow light with the letters ABS inside a circle. You’ll still be able to stop using your regular brakes, but you should get these fixed as quickly as possible.
Electric Power Steering – A light that looks like your steering wheel with an exclamation mark next to it means that your electric power steering (EPS) system has malfunctioned. You might even feel some resistance when you turn the steering wheel. Get this looked at right away. It’s not safe to keep driving if you can’t steer properly.
Low Tire Pressure – When one or more of your tires has low air pressure, you’ll see a light that looks like an exclamation mark that’s underlined and in between a set of parentheses. Check the air in all your tires, including the spare. If there’s no damage to any of them, fill whichever ones are low on air.
Check Engine – The check engine light looks like a picture of your engine and can be caused by a number of malfunctions under the hood. Before scheduling service, check the fuel cap. It can also cause this light to come on if it hasn’t been tightened properly.
SRS Warning – This safety warning looks like a person sitting down with their seatbelt on and a circle in front of them. It indicates that either your airbags or your seatbelt pre-tensioners have malfunctioned and may not work properly during a collision.
Engine Overheating – When you’re low on coolant and your engine gets too hot, you’ll see a red light that looks like a thermometer floating on some waves. Find a safe place to stop and turn the engine off. Let it cool down for several minutes before turning it back on to see if you can drive to the service center. If it begins overheating again, call for a tow truck.
Low Oil Pressure – If you’re overdue for an oil change, you’ll eventually see a dashboard light that looks like an oil can. Continuing to drive with low oil can cause damage to your engine. Stop the car and turn the engine off. Add oil if possible, then schedule an oil change with a service professional.
Charging System – A light that looks like your car battery is a sign that the charging system or electrical system is having a problem holding a charge. Without a consistent charge, your car may shut itself off, so it’s a good idea to pull over and call for service right away.
Brake System Service – A more serious brake problem is indicated by a red light with an exclamation mark inside a circle. This means that there’s a problem with your main brake system. It’s not safe to continue driving with faulty brakes. Stop the car immediately and call for a tow truck.
